The invention relates to a magnetic coupling device (1) for connecting a leash to the collar (2) of a pet, said collar (2) comprising an element (5) that includes one portion (10) made from a ferromagnetic or paramagnetic material, preferably forming a loop and positioned such as to be located on a raised portion of the collar (2). The device is characterised in that it comprises: a body (3) that extends longitudinally along a main axis and includes a hook (4) that can retain the loop-shaped element (5) on the collar (2) of the pet a traction arm (7) mounted such as to pivot about the body (3) and intended to be hooked to one end of the leash (8), said arm moving between a first abutment position corresponding to a device-approach phase initiated by the user of the device (1) and a second abutment position corresponding to a functional device position a retaining means (6) such as a safety catch mounted such as to pivot about the body (3) and intended to lock the loop-shaped element (5) in the hook (4) and a magnet (9) integrated in a housing, the poles of which are oriented substantially transverse to the plane of the hook (4), said magnet (9) being intended to co-operate with the loop-shaped element (5) during the approach phase. The approach phase consists in positioning the main axis of the body (3) in a substantially horizontal direction.
