The invention relates to an oral accessibility device for separating the dental arches and holding the latter in a separated position, which consists of a spatula comprising: a portion forming a planar, elongate rigid blade (11), having one end (12) suitable for facilitating insertion between the dental arches of a patient, and a width corresponding to a desired separation between the dental arches of a patient; and a handle (2) rigidly connected to one end of the blade and shaped such as to enable the spatula to pivot about a longitudinal axis by manual pivoting of the handle. The invention can be used in particular for oral examinations of behaviourally handicapped persons by oral health professionals. The invention can also be used by parents, carers and special educators to maintain oral hygiene of behaviourally impaired persons.
