The present invention provides methods and compositions for improving the success of organ transplantation. The methods and compositions of the present invention are directed to exposing desired organs to stem cells before, during, and / or after implantation. In one embodiment, stem cells are designated to be harvested for transplantation or reduce the deleterious effects of ischemia on organs harvested for transplantation.
