PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of controlling illumination in a bore without relying on electrical control. A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes a pedestal 8 having a bore, a top plate 9a movable from the outside of the bore into the bore, and a light source 8a provided in the bore and illuminating the inside of the bore. The top plate has a light guide portion that transmits or reflects the light emitted from the light source.When the top plate is located outside the bore, the light emitted from the light source does not pass through the light guide portion but inside the bore. When the top plate is located inside the bore, the light emitted from the light source passes through the light guide section.
