The present invention relates to a container for an aerosol generating substrate for use in an electrically heated aerosol generator having a penetrating element for penetrating a penetrating region, the container having a penetrating region. The container includes a casing and a cap that includes a penetration region and a heater, the heater defining a boundary of the penetration region. The present invention is configured to couple the power source to the container heater through the electrical contacts of the power source and the receptacle containing the aerosol-forming substrate as described in any claim, connected to the power source and the container. It also relates to an electrically heated aerosol generating device including electrical contacts and means for penetrating the penetration region of the container when the container is received in the recess. The invention further relates to a method for producing a container comprising an aerosol generating substrate.
