Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL) is an assistive technology device for supporting physically disabled persons by understanding the percentage of their disability. HAL is expected to be applied in various fields such as rehabilitation support and physical training support in medical field, support for disabled people in activities of daily living, heavy labour support at factories, and rescue support at disaster sites, as well as in the entertainment field. This work aims to design and develop a Hybrid Assistive Limb based on Electromyogram (EMG) signals for serving the physically disabled persons and for persons suffering with inadequate muscle strength during the performance of any physical task. To obtain useful information from EMG signal it is required that detecting and recording device processes the signal linearly. This can be achieved by using EMG amplifier. The acquired EMG is given to classifier for proper classification and these signals are used for controlling the artificial limb.
