The disclosure relates to a chamber including: a chamber area for accommodation and restraint of one or more non-human animals completely within the chamber by a patiition, gate or rail a comminuter for creating finely divided mineral salt airstream means to cause an airstream in the chamber area a desiccator which can be uncovered to remove excess water vapour from the chamber a dispenser for adding the finely divided mineral salts comprising particles 5-15 &mum in size to the airstream to form an airborne suspension in the airstream that is capable of being inspired by the one or more animals and deposited on the one or more animal&rsquos skin, wherein preferably the internal wall surfaces resist deposition of the salt particles, and wherein the chamber further includes a partition wall with an aperture through which air is blown by the dispenser into the chamber area, and wherein the mineral salt consists substantially of common salt and may include a combination of sulphate, a chloride or fluoride salts of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron. Also disclosed is a method of contacting the cell surfaces of livestock selected from horses and greyhounds which are in contact with the atmosphere with finely divided mineral salts having particles size in the range 5-15 microns selected from phosphates, suIphates, chlorides and fluorides of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron in airborne suspension including the steps of confining the animal in a chamber and exposing the animal to an airstream which contains the suspension and optionally repeating the exposure, wherein the means for finely dividing mineral salts and the means for exposing the animal to an airstream are parts of a single assembly located within the chamber.
