A system and method employing image analysis may provide an objective measureof the state of gingival tissue health. A region of analysis on an image of gingivaltissue may be divided into pixels. Each pixel may have an associated color madeup of component R, G and B values. A user may obtain an objective measurement oforal cavity soft tissue health by determining an objective measurement of thecomponent color values of a gingival tissue image region and performing statisticalanalysis on the color values.
