The present invention is related to a method for recovering industrial waste substrates, particularly from mining, by using native endemic and non-endemic plant species from the location were the substrate to be treated is identified. The method of substrate recovery basically comprises the stages of: selecting the endemic plant species capable of growing in substrates presenting heavy metals; performing a tolerance test on the plant species, finalizing with a new selection of the most tolerant species; propagating the selected endemic plant species vegetatively; acclimating the vegetatively propagated species and setting up the plant species in the field surface containing the substrate to be treated. The present method is used especially in substrates obtained from mine tailings, i.e., those containing a high concentration of metals.
