The large ground wheels fastened in a basic frame move the hose reel running in the same direction and, by means of some gearwheels, the horizontally running hose-guide roller, each by 26 millimetres for every complete revolution of the hose reel, so that the new hose winding comes to rest in each case closely, but neatly next to the last hose winding. The hose does not need to be touched by hand either during unrolling or during rolling-up, particularly not on the ground, so that there is no possibility of becoming wet and dirty. A valve rotatable all-round is located between the spray piece attached to the hose reel on the outside and the rolled hose, so that the spray piece can always be held in the desired direction even while the appliance is running and during spraying. A motor can move the appliance backwards and forwards and thereby wind up the hose and lay it out on the garden path, even when there are many narrow bends, so as to take care of the plants and without the need for any effort. The soiling of the person and the repeated time-consuming stooping which are unavoidable where the conventional appliances are concerned are also avoided.
