A meat pet food product free of wheat gluten and a method of making the same are provided. Meat pet food products and methods of making the same are described in (i) canola protein isolate, (ii) combination of linseed and canola protein isolate, or (iii) combination of linseed and egg white. Replace wheat gluten without adversely affecting structure, appearance, and taste. The meat pet food product is preferably an emulsified product such as a meat-like food mass. The egg white is preferably spray dried egg white. Canola protein isolate, linseed and canola protein isolate combinations, or linseed and egg white combinations can be replaced with wheat gluten at a weight ratio of 1: 1 or less. The meat pet food product does not contain wheat gluten, preferably no gluten.
