A system for operating a wearable device (203). The system comprising a wearable device (203) configured to operate in at least a connected and a disconnected state, and an attachment member (202A, 202B) configured to attach the wearable device (203) to a body part of a user. The attachment member (202A, 202B) comprising an element operative to determine that the attachment member (202A, 202B) is connected. A sensor (212) is configured to detect the body part of the user. The wearable device (203) is configured to switch from the disconnected state to the connected state based on the determination, by the element, that the attachment member (202A, 202B) is connected.
