The present invention relates to a composition containing a Morus alba extract as an active ingredient for lowering blood cholesterol level, and more specifically, to a composition including Morus alba extract containing mulberroside A and/or oxyresveratrol as an active ingredient. The mulberroside A and/or the oxyresveratrol refined from the Morus alba extract are/is proven to inhibit activity of 3-Hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) and squalene synthase. Therefore, the mulberroside A and/or the oxyresveratrol can lower the blood cholesterol level and thus can be used for preventing and treating vascular diseases.본 발명은 상백피 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 혈중 콜레스테롤 저하제 조성물에 관한 것으로, 더욱 자세하게는 멀베로사이드 A(mulberroside A) 및/또는 옥시레스베라트롤(oxyresveratrol) 성분을 유효성분으로 하는 상백피 추출물을 함유하는 혈중 콜레스테롤 저하제 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 상백피 추출물에서 정제한 멀베로사이드 A 및/또는 옥시레스베라트롤이 에이치엠지 코에이(HMG-CoA； 3-Hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA) 및 스쿠알렌 합성효소(squalene synthase)의 활성을 저해하여, 혈중 콜레스테롤을 감소시키는 것을 확인하였으므로, 체내의 콜레스테롤 함량은 저하시켜 혈관계 질환의 예방 및 치료에 사용할 수 있다.
