The plunger extends through the carrier member and the plunger engagement structure is retained by the carrier member. The plunger engagement structure can selectively engage and disengage the plunger. The housing and the carrier member are configured such that the carrier member is laterally mountable within the housing. Preferably, both the carrier member and the plunger engagement structure form a subassembly and the subassembly is laterally mountable within the housing after being assembled. By providing that the carrier member is laterally mountable as a subassembly comprising a plunger engagement structure, the device is easy to assemble and is itself suitable for automated assembly processes.
