The present patent application refers to a ready to use catheter assembly (1) comprising a catheter package (2) with an opening means (6), a catheter (3) with a catheter shaft (9) which is arranged in the catheter package so that a distal end of the catheter lies in the region of the opening means, and a protective sleeve (13) which at least partly covers the catheter shaft, a first end (14) of the protective sleeve is fixed to the distal end of the catheter. Furthermore, the patent application refers to a method for producing such a ready to use catheter assembly.
