A cordless cautery and cutting surgical device includes a modular battery anda surgical handle operable to removablyhold the battery. The handle has a cordless radio-frequency-signal generationassembly and a surgical bipolar end effectorhaving jaws and a cutting blade. The signal-generation assembly selectivelysupplies radio-frequency signal to the end effector whenpowered for electrocautery of tissue. The handle defines therein anaseptically scalable battery-holding compartment and removablyholding the battery. A motor assembly is disposed in the handle and iselectrically connected to the battery and/or the signal-generationassembly and is powered and controlled thereby. The motor assembly physicallycouples to the blade and/or at least onejaw for moving the blade/jaw(s). The second connector part connects thebattery to the signal-generation assembly and/or the motorassembly when the battery is removably disposed in the compartment.
