A compression apparatus for providing a therapeutic compression pressure to a wearers body. The apparatus includes an inflatable bladder formed from bladder material, a controller, and a pump operatively connectable to the bladder for pressurizing the bladder. The controller has a pre-therapeutic compression function for instructing the pump to pressurize the bladder to an elevated pressure above the therapeutic compression pressure and to maintain the elevated pressure for a period of time before depressurizing the bladder.
