The invention relates to a formulation and method for activating genes that regulate natural interactions between plants and the environment, based on poly A - D - glucosamine, the derivatives thereof and/or salts of same, as well as organic acids that are precursors of elements for the synthesis of compounds required for the functioning of the activated natural processes. The formulation comprises: (a) poly A - D - glucosamine, the derivatives thereof and/or one of the salts of same, with a viscosity of between 10 cps and 190 cps and with a degree of deacetylation of between 60% and 90% (b) 0.2 % to 12 % v/v of an organic acid solution and (c) an effective quantity in each treated plant of poly - D - glucosamine, the derivatives thereof and salts of same, in the range of 50 ppm to 1.000 ppm, in which the pH of said formulation is between 5.0 and 7.0.
