An improved hard capsule made by using either polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) or a PVA copolymer or both as the capsule film component, which is improved in the breaking extension of capsule film with the maximum stress of the film kept at a desired level and is thereby enhanced in fracture resistance and impact resistance. The hard capsule is characterized by being made of a capsule film prepared from a combination of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and/or a PVA copolymer with an organic acid and/or a salt thereof.
