An animal electronic data collecting device comprising: a radio transmitter and receiver, a processor for controlling operation of the device and memory for storing information including a first identifier associated with the device, wherein the processor is arranged to transmit a signal, by means of the radio transmitter, and to receive, by means of the radio receiver, one or more signals, each representing a second identifier from other devices and the processor is arranged to store in the memory each second identifier, wherein the default operating condition of the device is for the radio receiver to be in a receive condition (301) and, on receipt of a wakeup call (302), the processor is arranged to place the radio transmitter into a transmit condition (308).Linvention concerne un dispositif électronique de collecte de données sur des animaux, comprenant : un récepteur et un émetteur radio, un processeur pour la commande du fonctionnement du dispositif et de la mémoire de stockage dinformations comprenant un premier identificateur associé au dispositif. Ledit processeur est conçu pour émettre un signal, au moyen de lémetteur radio, pour recevoir, au moyen du récepteur radio, un ou plusieurs signaux représentant chacun un second identificateur provenant dautres dispositifs, et pour stocker dans la mémoire chaque second identificateur. Lorsque le dispositif est en état de fonctionnement par défaut, lémetteur est à létat de réception (301) et, dès réception dun appel de réveil (302), le processeur est conçu pour mettre lémetteur radio à létat démission (308).
