Data stream comprises a data signal per skin pixel area. Data signal represents the detected electromagnetic radiation reflected from the respective skin pixel area over time. Analyser is used to analyse spatial and/or temporal properties of the skin area. Smoothness, size, uniformity of the skin area and/or of chrominance and/or luminance components of the skin area over time are determined and reliability information is determined using the change of the number of smooth and/or textured smooth skin pixel blocks over time and/or the change of the size of the skin area over time. Reliability information is determined from the spatial and/or temporal properties of the skin area. Reliability information indicates the reliability of the determination of the vital sign information or vital sign determined based on the data signals of skin pixel areas within the skin area. Processor determines a vital sign information signal of the subject based on the data signals of skin pixel areas within the skin area. Post-processor determines the desired vital sign from said vital sign information signal.
