The present invention provides a novel compound isolated from a plant of Quamoclit sp. and a method for chemically synthesizing the novel compound isolated from a plant of Quamoclit sp. as an active ingredient. Also, the present invention relates to the novel compound and a composition comprising the novel compound as an active ingredient for preventing or treating diabetes and diabetic complications. Since the compound derived from a plant of Quamoclit sp., according to the present invention, and a composition comprising the same as an active ingredient have an excellent effect of facilitating insulin secretion, the compound and the composition can show efficacy on prevention or treatment of diabetes and various complications thereof.본 발명은 유홍초속 식물에서 분리한 신규 화합물 및 이를 유효성분과 유홍초속 식물에서 분리한 신규 화합물을 화학적 합성으로 제조한 방법을 제공하고 이들 신규 화합물과 이를 유효성분으로 포함하는 당뇨병 및 당뇨합병증의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물과 관한 것으로서, 본 발명에 따른 유홍초속 식물 유래 화합물 및 이를 유효성분으로 포함하는 조성물은 우수한 인슐린 분비 촉진 효과를 가지고 있어, 당뇨병 및 이로 인한 각종 합병증의 예방 또는 치료에 효능을 나타낼 수 있다.
