A method for the separation, isolation and characterization of steviol glycosides is provided. A comprehensive method for the separation, isolation and characterization of two or more combinations of steviol glycosides from extracts of Stevia rebaudiana plants and their use in sweetening compositions are disclosed. A combination of two or more steviol glycosides from Stevia rebaudiana is characterized. A combination of two or more of the steviol glycosides can be used as a sweetness enhancer, flavor enhancer, and sweetener in foods, beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Also disclosed is a method of isolating two or more combinations of steviol glycosides.
