PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods for treating or preventing breast cancer in humans.SOLUTION: In certain aspects, the invention provides compositions and methods for treating or preventing breast cancer in humans. In a part, the disclosure relates to use of activin antagonists as well as ActRIIa antagonists for treating or preventing breast cancer or breast cancer related bone loss. In particular, the disclosure provides a method for treating or preventing breast cancer using a soluble form of ActRIIa that acts as an inhibitor of activin.
