A surgical staple driver configured for use with a surgical staple cartridge operatively interfaced with a surgical instrument cam member that is axially movable along a first cam axis. The driver body can be slidably supported within the surgical staple cartridge. The cam surface is provided on the driver body oriented to cam-engage with the cam member along the first cam axis. The driver further includes a staple support portion configured to operably support at least one surgical staple relative to the cam surface such that when the cam member engages the cam surface, the cam member is on the staple support portion.
