PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for preventing or treating periodontal disease, exhibiting high argingipain activity-inhibiting effects, and to provide an oral composition.
SOLUTION: The agent for preventing or treating the periodontal disease comprises gabexate mesilate, and a water-soluble nonionic macromolecular material and/or a nonionic surfactant. The oral composition is obtained by formulating the gabexate mesilate, and the water-soluble nonionic macromolecular material and/or the nonionic surfactant. The agent for preventing or treating the periodontal disease exhibits the excellent argingipain activity-inhibiting effects by specifically inhibiting the argingipain of a cysteine protease produced by Porphyromonas gingivalis of a causative bacterium of the periodontal disease in high activity. The oral composition is useful for prevention or treatment of the periodontal disease.
