Systems, devices, and methods permit insufflation of a body cavity prior to theinsertion of a cannula into the body cavity. Some embodiments of an access systemcomprise an obturator, a trocar, and a fluid flow channel. The access system hasa closed configuration, in which a distal end of the access system is fluidly isolatedfrom the fluid flow channel, and an open configuration, in which the distal endof the access system is fluidly connected to the fluid flow channel, thereby permittingfluid flow, for example, an insufflation gas into a body cavity.
