The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions for preventing or treating dementia, comprising an extract of Eremochloa ophiuroides as an active ingredient. The present inventors verify through animal experiments that an extract and an active fraction of Eremochloa ophiuroides according to the present invention inhibit the activity of amyloid-&beta； (A&beta；) involved in the formation of amyloid plagues, which are causative of dementia. Therefore, the present inventors find that the extract and the active fraction of Eremochloa ophiuroides according to the present invention can be useful as an active ingredient of a composition for preventing or treating dementia, and thus complete the present invention.본 발명은 센티페드그라스(Eremochloaophiuroides) 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 치매 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 본 발명의 센티페드그라스 추출물 및 활성 분획물이 치매의 원인이 되는 아밀로이드 플러그(amyloid plaques) 형성에 관여하는 아미로이드-베타(amyloid-β, Aβ)의 활성 저해를 실험 동물에서 확인함으로써 치매 예방 또는 치료용 조성물의 유효성분으로 유용하게 사용될 수 있음을 밝힘으로써 본 발명을 완성하였다.
