Disclosed is a non-therapeutic method for weight reduction in an overweight or obese subject wherein an effective amount of vitamin K is administered to the subject to increase the vitamin K status in the subject. Also disclosed is the use of a pharmaceutical formulation comprising an effective amount of vitamin K in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of overweight in an overweight or obese subject, with the proviso that said medicament does not contain an essential fatty acid (EFA).
