An energy delivery guide wire 10 comprises a guide wire proximal portion 12, a guide wire distal portion 14 and an energy delivery tip 16 extending fromthe distal portion. The energy delivery tip has a proximal tip end 18 and a distal tip end 20. The guide wire distal portion 14 extends in a first direction in an unbiased condition and the energy delivery tip 16 extends in a second direction different from the first direction and is preferably curved. The distal tip end 20 is accordingly offset relative to the first direction bybetween 10 to 50% of the tip length. The energy delivery tip is preferably an electrode capable of heating tissue to cause ablation and thereby occlusion of blood vessels. The electrode may be formed with an electrically conductive core and an external conductive wire coil. The curvature of the guide wire is configured to contact a vessel wall 15 at a first contact point 26 at the proximal tip of the energy delivery tip and a second contact point 28 at the distal tip.
