Protective eyewear including a primary frame is joined with first and second separate and independent protective elements that can move relative to one another. The frame can be constructed from polymeric material, and can include a central portion and opposing left and right side portions that extend rearward to attachment elements and subsequently a strap. The protective elements can be in the form of metal cages, each including a perimeter element that generally surrounds a users eye and a transverse element that reinforces the perimeter element. The protective elements are primarily only connected via the frame and can move relative to one another, optionally about a flex element defined by the frame. This can enable the eyewear to readily conform to a variety of different facial contours thereby meeting the demand of different players having different facial structure.
