The present inventionpertains to programming a foot pedal andswitches located therewith that is usedwith a medical device and/or medicaldevice system. A user may select any switchor directional movement available on thefoot pedal for programming by activatingthe switch and/or moving a treadlelocated on the foot pedal or by selecting a footpedal feature on a display. Theprogramming options available for the selectedswitch or directional movement aredisplayed on the display screen. Using thefoot pedal, the display screen, voicecommand or combinations thereof, the usercan navigate through different options toselect one or more options and confirmthe chosen option(s) for the particularswitch or directional movement. Thecontrol and feel of the movement of thetreadle and/or switch provides the user withthe ability to program custom settingsthat suit the user's foot position(s) and/orparticular style of surgery.
