The invention provides a method for producing mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs), mycosporine-glutaminol-glucoside (myc-gln-glu). The method comprises the following steps: exposing yeast to ultraviolet light, and extracting mycosporine-like amino acids from the yeast. The invention also provides an anti-ultraviolet composition, comprising mycosporine-glutaminol-glucoside (myc-gln-glu). In addition, the invention provides use of mycosporine-like amino acids for manufacturing an anti-ultraviolet composition.
