PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring the growth state of a plant, by resolving control factors of growth of the plant and measuring the factors and a method for controlling the growth of the plant and the lifetime, using the factors. SOLUTION: The method for measuring the growth state of the plant and a kit required for the measurement method detect, identify and determine the quantity of a linolenic acid (18:3) of the plant or its resolvent. The method for measuring the growth state of the plant measures the content (%) of the linolenic acid to the total fatty acids, based on a quantity of the linolenic acid (18:3) or its resolvent. The method for controlling the growth of the plant controls the quantity of the linolenic acid of the plant.
