Eye prescriptions may be determined by providing a simple, easy to use, portable device with open view channels enabling the respective eye to see a target external to, and spaced away from, the device focusing the two eyes at effective infinity, and with a light source producing a wavefront while the respective eye focuses on the target, which wavefront is received by a wavefront aberrometer disposed within the portable device and providing by determining logic disposed within the device accurate results. Unlike stationary, closed view autorefractors, this device typically is portable, self-usable, relatively inexpensive, enabling more widespread use across the world.
