The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for sterilizing fruit and vegetables. According to the present invention, the apparatus for sterilizing fruit and vegetables sterilizes strawberries by irradiating the strawberries (1), contained in a package (P), with an electron beam from the outside of the package (P). The thickness of the package (P) is 350 &mum or thinner. Accelerating voltage for the electron beam is set to be 150 kV or higher and 300 kV or lower. The apparatus for sterilizing fruit and vegetables irradiates the whole circumferences of the strawberries with the electron beam by emitting the electron beam from one side and the other side to fruit and vegetables contained in the package.
