A method of ensuring safety when administering insulin in doses to a user using a diabetes data management unit including a microprocessor connected to a memory device, a display, a clock, and a user interface； the method includes: selecting a time period during the day from a plurality of time periods during the day for administering insulin bolus； calculating a bolus dose of insulin for a user in a selected time period using a microprocessor； comparing the selected time period with a microprocessor to the current time period supported by a clock microprocessor； and notifying the user with a warning if the selected period for calculation is outside the current time period of the clock. 2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising measuring glucose and assigning a label to the measurement result relating to a time period during the day. The method according to claim 1, further comprising setting at least one range of time intervals over a 24 hour time period as one of several time periods. The method according to claim 3, in which the setting includes setting the appropriate time intervals for the morning period, day period, evening period and night period for a 24 hour time period.
