A method of making a device with multi-stage engagement, the method comprising: releasably connecting a first component 22 to a second component 24 with a first canted coil spring 26, the connection being releasable with a first force exerted on at least one of the first component or the second component； releasably connecting the second component to a third component 28 with a second canted coil spring 30, the connection being releasable with a second force exerted on at least one of the second component or the third component； applying a progressively increasing force to the first component, the third component, or both the first and third components to disconnect the first connection before the second connection； and wherein the second force is less than the first force.
