PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phototherapy apparatus used for phototherapy of seasonal emotional disorder, seasonal diabetes or the like which facilitates continuation of the therapy by reducing uncomfortable feelings and stresses a patient (a user) feels when starting to use the apparatus.
SOLUTION: The phototherapy apparatus 1a includes an illuminating section 3 and a main unit 2 having a control section 4 for controlling lighting, turning off, and illuminance of the illuminating section 3. The main unit 2 has a present time setting section 6 for registering the present time, an automatic lighting setting section 8 for setting the lighting start time and turning off the time of the illuminating section 3 and the maximum illuminance of the illuminating section and for sending the set values to the control section 4, an illuminance increasing speed setting section 9 for setting an illuminance pitch used to gradually increase the lighting illuminance of the illuminating section 3 every time the illuminating section starts lighting in accordance with the number of lighting times and sending the set value to the control section 4, and a lighting start time advancing speed setting section 10 for setting a time pitch used to gradually advance the lighting start time of the illuminating section 3 in accordance with the number of lighting times and sending the set value to the control section 4.
