598380 Disclosed are salts of amphiphilic photosensitizing agents which is formed from an amino alcohol. The amphiphilic photosensitizing agent may be TPCS2a(Amphinex), TPPS2a, or Porfimer(Photofrin®). The amino alcohol may be selected from monoethanolamine, di-ethanolamine, tri-ethanolamine and 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl) propane-1,3-diol; a cyclic amino alcohol, e.g. selected from 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-morpholine and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-pyrrolidine; or an amino sugar, e.g. selected from glucamine and N-methylglucamine (meglumine). The use of the salts in photochemical internalisation(PCI) is also disclosed for introducing a drug molecule into the cytosol of a cell in a patient, said method comprising the following steps: (a) contacting said cell with the pharmaceutically acceptable salt of an amphiphilic photosensitizing agent; (b) contacting said cell with said drug molecule; and (c) irradiating said cell with light of a wavelength effective to activate thephotosensitizing agent. Compositions and kits comprising the salts are also disclosed.
