Matrix adhesive composition for transdermal delivery of pharmaceutically active ingredient comprising of acrylate type aqueous based pressure sensitive adhesive emulsion and an active pharmaceutical ingredient and optionally a permeation enhancer or co-solvents or excipients or combination thereof. The adhesive used in the composition is acrylate type aqueous based pressure sensitive adhesive emulsion. The said adhesive composition is used for maintaining the therapeutic system on the skin as well as sustaining the drug delivery.
