A sickbeds monitoring system by detecting infrared ray (IR) of human body and a monitoring method thereby are disclosed. The monitoring system comprises a bed for carrying a human, an IR sensing element for human body disposed on the bed and sensing an infrared response signal of the human, a signal transceiver electrically connecting the IR sensing element, a reminding element for reminding a user, and a processor electrically connecting the signal transceiver and the reminding element. The infrared response signal sensed by the IR sensing element is passed to the processor via the signal transceiver. A leaving time threshold and a leaving time of the human leaving the bed is set by using information of the human and calculated by using the infrared response signal respectively.
