A driver (100) for inserting a bone screw comprising: a handle (160) a driver sleeve (130) comprising a releasing mechanism and one or more sliding members (136, 155) an inner driver (170) being releasably movable within the driver sleeve (130) and further comprising one or more recesses (171) wherein operation of the releasing mechanism permits the one or more sliding members (136, 155) to engage the one or more recesses (171) and permits the screw to be pushed off of the inner driver (170) wherein the one or more recesses (171) are configured to permit movement of the one or more sliding members (136, 155) in a direction along the longitudinal axis when engaged in the one or more recesses (171) and the one or more recesses (171) comprise a start preventing the one or more sliding members (136, 155) from further moving along the longitudinal axis towards the proximate end (175) of the inner driver (170) when the one or more sliding members (136, 155) are engaged in the one or more recesses (171).
