A cosmetic composition for preventing or treating skeletal muscle atrophy contains celastrol as an active ingredient.본 발명은 셀라스트롤을 포함하는 근위축 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 셀라스트롤은 세포 보호기능을 가진 열충격 단백질의 발현 증가를 통해 근단백질 합성을 촉진시키는 한편 단백질 분해 요인을 억제함으로써 항위축 효능을 나타내므로 우주식품, 기능성 스포츠 음료 등에 사용할 수 있다.
