The present invention relates to a filter system (72), comprising an intravascular filter including a plurality of elongated filter legs (16) operatively coupled to an apical head (14); a filter sheath (92) having a distal end, a proximal end, an interior lumen (96) therethrough adapted to slidably receive the intravascular filter, and a second interior lumen (98); and a centering member (74) including a first section adapted to assume a preset shape when deployed within a blood vessel, the centering member comprising an elongated wire having a first end and a proximal end; wherein the second interior lumen (98) includes a lumen opening (100) provided in a wall of the filter sheath to form an exit port, and the second interior lumen (98) is adapted to slidably receive the elongated wire (76).
