The present invention provides novel pyridine compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable salts or prodrugs thereof. Methods for preparing these compounds are also provided. These compounds are useful in inhibiting CYP17 activity by administering to a patient a therapeutically effective amount of one or more compounds. By doing so, the compounds are effective in treating conditions associated with CPY17 activity. Various conditions can be treated with these compounds and include diseases characterized by abnormal cell proliferation.
