The invention also relates to peroxyformic acid formed by the above compositions and methods. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of peroxyformic acid for treating a surface or object, preferably in situ. The present invention further relates to a method of treating biofilms with peroxyformic acid, including peroxyformic acid generated in situ.
