An intravenous catheter device is modified to include a biasing arm capable of advancing a portion of the catheter device to cause a beveled portion of an introducer needle to be hooded within an interior lumen of the catheter tube. The dimensions of the biasing arm and various other interacting surfaces of the catheter device are configured to achieve effective hooding of the needle tip while avoiding overhooding or underhooding inaccuracies.
