Described herein are methods, methods of use, combinations and compositions for treating cancer comprising a dopamine receptor (DR) blocker such as thioridazine and a chemotherapeutic agent. As an option, the chemotherapeutic agent is a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis inhibitor such as cytarabine or a microtubule inhibitor such as paclitaxel or docetaxel. The methods, methods of use, combinations and compositions of the present invention are useful for the treatment of cancers such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
