A method for treating fractures of a bone by plate osteosynthesis comprises the steps of:determining at least one parameter representing the bone size,classifying the bone based on the at least one parameter representing the bone size to obtain a classification,assigning a screw configuration for fixing a bone plate to the bone based on the classification,determining at least one additional parameter representing the bone size,confirming the suitability of the screw configuration assignment based on the at least one additional parameter representing the bone size,using the screw configuration for fixing the bone plate to the bone, if the suitability of the screw configuration assignment is confirmed based on the at least one additional parameter representing the bone size.
